We pick you up at 4:00 AM from your Cusco hotel for an early start through the South Valley. Stop in Cusipata for breakfast at 6:30 AM, then continue to Checacupe, a charming rural town home to the historic Spanish-era rope bridge reminiscent of the last Inca bridge, Qeswachaka. Take a short break for snacks and bathrooms before heading to the trailhead.
The drive up the mountains takes about 1.5 hours, passing local villages where your guide shares insights into traditional Andean life. At the parking area, your guide will give a short briefing on Andean customs, folklore, and the sacred significance of Ausangate Mountain.
Then begins a gradual 45-minute hike to the summit. Along the way, spot alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas, and enjoy sweeping views of the Andes. Once at the top, take your time to soak in the serenity and striking colors of Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain, sitting at 4,900 meters above sea level.
After taking in the landscape, descend back to the vehicle and drive to Cusipata for lunch, before returning to Cusco around 4:00 PM.
